Soundscape composed and produced by James Russell
The Strangely pale-faced son of A gypsy whore. Scaramouche was always fated to be a clown, but from his birth in a dingy Trinidad knocking shop, his life has been a vivid moving and hilarious odyssey through extraordinary adventures, crumbling empires and the darkest episodes of the 20th century.
Now as the champagne corks fly on millennium eve, Scaramouche is about to give his last and most important performance. He steps out of the circus ring, peels away his outer disguises and reveals the loves, brutalities, ecstasies and tragedies that created the seven white masks of Scaramouche Jones.
This our current production came about because we were requested to produce a show which was to be a joint venture with THE ROUND, a new theatre venue in the Ouseburn Valley in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was to be the first in house production for the venue, to open for a week in June 2007 Due to budget restrictions a one man show was decided on. |

Scaranouche Jones was made famous by Pete Postlethwaite . The play was written for him by Justin Butcher and following it’s debut at the Dublin Theatre Festival in 2001 toured nationally and internationally. |

Our production was rehearsed ‘in the round’, but unfortunately for us, and without warning The Round went in to liquidation with only a few weeks to go to the opening night. |
Following a successful opening at Northern Stage the show enjoyed a modest tour in the North East.
We are grateful to Arts Council North East for their support with this project.
